Students considering how to provide evidence of their
teaching knowledge, dispositions, and performances through the portfolio
should refer to the local, state, and national models and standards
identified here as well as other appropriate sources, such as the
standards in their content discipline.
Purdue School of Education
Refer to Purdue's Model of Professional Preparation. Also,
use the three themes developed by Purdue's Portfolio Task Force
to categorize artifacts you create for your portfolio:
- Theme A - Attention to Learners
- Theme B - Understanding Curriculum in Context
- Theme C - Commitment ot Professional Growth

INTASC
The Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium
(INTASC) has developed principles which should be present in
all teaching regardless of the subject or grade level taught.
Indiana's standards are built upon the INTASC principles. Use
these ten principles to categorize artifacts
you create for your portfolio.

Indiana Professional Standards Board
The IPSB standards govern teacher licensure in the state of
Indiana. There are standards for both developmental levels and content areas.
When you create an artifact, in your narrative be sure to address
how it relates to IPSB standards and demonstrates your knowledge
of teaching and learning, your disposition to be a teacher,
and your ability to actually teach (performance).

Indiana Academic Standards
The Indiana Academic Standards identify what school children
should know at particular grade levels in specific content areas.
When you create instructional materials, pay close attention
to what the academic standards say. When you create an artifact,
in your narrative or the information accompanying the artifact
you should indicate how you have integrated the academic standards
into your work.

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE) is the accrediting body for teacher education at Purdue
University. NCATE has established standards for 17 specialty
program areas. When you create an artifact, in your narrative
address how the artifact shows your understanding of the relevant
NCATE specialty program area standards.

In addition to demonstrating understanding of general teaching
standards and standards relevant to your content area, your
portfolio should also show evidence of your ability to understand
and use technology. The ISTE/NETS standards address relevant
technology standards. When you create an artifact, in your narrative
you should make note of how the artifact and/or your electronic
representation of it demonstrates your ability to meet the NETS
standards.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an
organization dedicated to maintaining high standards for teacher
knowledge and performance. They support a volunatry national
system that certifies teacher who meet these demanding standards.
